The short list
Because there's no account system and no analytics script running, there's very little for us to collect. The only data that touches our infrastructure at all is standard web server access logs — the same baseline logging almost every website's hosting provider generates automatically, regardless of whether the site owner adds anything on top of it.
Server access logs typically include: your IP address, browser and device type (user agent), the page requested, referring URL, and timestamp. These are generated by our hosting infrastructure for security and reliability purposes (detecting abuse, diagnosing outages) and are not cross-referenced with any advertising ID, cookie, or analytics profile, because we don't run any of those systems.
If you contact us through the Contact Us page or by email, we'll have whatever you choose to include in that message — typically your name, email address, and the content of your message. We use this solely to respond to you and don't add it to any marketing list, because we don't operate one.
Your project numbers stay on your device
Every calculator on this site — all 93 of them — runs its math directly in your browser using JavaScript. When you enter a rise, a run, a tread depth, or any other project value, that number is used to compute a result on your screen and is never sent to our servers, stored in a database, or attached to your IP address in any way.
None are set today
This site does not currently set any cookies — first-party or third-party — and does not use browser storage (localStorage, sessionStorage) to track you across visits or sessions. There is no cookie consent banner on this site right now because, as of the effective date above, there is nothing requiring consent.
This will change once advertising is introduced. See the next section for exactly what that means and when this page will be updated to reflect it.
What changes when ads launch — and what won't
We're planning to introduce advertising to help keep 93 calculators free with no account or paywall. We'd rather tell you what that involves now than let it appear silently later.
AWhat will likely change
Once live, ad placements will be served by a third-party advertising network. That network will typically set its own cookies or use similar identifiers to serve and measure ads, and may collect data such as your IP address, general location, and browsing activity on this site for ad targeting and frequency capping, subject to its own privacy policy.
BWhat won't change
Calculator inputs will still never be sent to our servers or shared with any ad network — the math still runs entirely client-side. There will still be no account system, and we will still not accept payment to alter a calculator's formula or a comparison, per our editorial policy.
CHow you'll be notified
The "Current state" table in Section 1 will be updated the day advertising goes live, the effective date at the top of this page will change, and the network(s) in use will be named here along with a link to their own privacy policy and opt-out tools.
DYour choices once it's live
You'll be able to manage ad-related cookies through your browser settings, and where applicable, through the ad network's own consent or opt-out tools (for example, the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out page). Details will be added here at launch.
Who sees what we have
We don't sell personal data, and there's currently very little of it to share. Our hosting provider processes the server access logs described in Section 2 as part of operating the infrastructure the site runs on. We may disclose information if required by law, such as in response to a valid legal request, or to protect the security and integrity of the site.
Once advertising is introduced, the relevant ad network(s) will process data as described in Section 5, governed by their own privacy policies, which we'll link from this page.
Access, correction & deletion
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data we hold about you — for example under the GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA/CPRA (California). Given the limited data we collect today, this mostly applies to messages you've sent us through the Contact Us page; email us and we'll act on a verified request within a reasonable time, generally within 30 days.
Since calculator inputs are never transmitted to us in the first place, there's nothing to request deletion of on that front — closing your browser tab already accomplishes it.
Not directed at children
This site is intended for a general adult audience planning construction projects and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information through the Contact Us page, contact us and we'll remove it.
How you'll know something changed

The biggest change on the horizon is the advertising rollout described in Section 5. When that happens, the "Effective date" and "Last reviewed" dates at the top of this page will update, this log will get a new row, and the Section 1 status table will flip from "Planned" to naming the actual network in use.
